The Godz, "2"

2nd album by New York-based avant garde noise/junk anarchic rock group. Dissonant incompetent psychedelic noise/junk here with wailing unmelodic vocals, weird solos and different background noises. Liner notes, photos and more. Digitally remastered from the original tapes." "Part of the Lower East Side that sheltered produced post-Beat avant-hippie rockers/performance artists the Fugs and the Holy Modal Rounders, as well as honest-to-God beat performers like Allen Ginsberg. as the late critic Lester Bangs noted in his essay the Godz 'are a pure test of one of the supreme traditions of rock & roll: the process by which a musical band can evolve from beginnings of almost insulting illiteracy to wind up several albums later romping and stomping deft as champs.

The Godz went back into the studios of Richard L. Alderson and Herb Abramson to wreak more havoc on the music scene. They would spark the punk movement and embolden a new generation of musicians to stretch the limits of expression in popular music. The ROLLING STONES acknowledged them on BEGGAR'S BANQUET, and the "grunge" movement in Seattle echoes their influences.
